چکیده

The clouds (IP) versus strings (connection-oriented) debate over the Internet architecture is reexamined. Controllability and observability are shown to be the key to the performance (QoS) of the networks. The clouds architecture treats the network as a black box, making it uncontrollable and unobservable; in contrast, the strings architecture was designed to be a controllable and observable structure. With the simple-core-complex-edge model, the clouds architecture seems to simplify network management. However, the rise of policy-based networking argues for centralized management. Finally, TCP is shown to be unscalable in performance due to its half-blind observability and half-effort controllability.

An Architecture for Security and Protection of Big Data

The issue of online privacy and security is a challenging subject, as it concerns the privacy of data that are increasingly more accessible via the internet. In other words, people who intend to access the private information of other users can do so more efficiently over the internet. This study is an attempt to address the privacy issue of distributed big data in the context of cloud computin...

Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-based internets: MIB-II

1. Status of this Memo This memo defines the second version of the Management Information Base (MIB-II) for use with network management protocols in TCP/IP-based internets. In particular, together with its companion memos which describe the structure of management information (RFC 1155) along with the network management protocol (RFC 1157) for TCP/IP-based internets, these documents provide a s...

‘Tension between Standardisation and Flexibility’ Revisited: A Critique

This paper is a critique on Hanseth et al. (1996), a study that centres on the question: does standardisation fix the parameters of ICT development and thus hamper innovation. Its conclusions are based on arguments drawn from the classic OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) debate. This paper starts with an analysis of the different aspects...

Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

Comparison of Radiobiological Models for Radiation Therapy Plans of Prostate Cancer: Three-dimensional Conformal versus Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Purpose: In the current study, using different radiobiological models, tumor control probability (TCP) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) of radiotherapy plans were calculated for three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) of prostate cancer. Methods and Materials: 10 prostate plans were randomly selected among patients ...
